Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can Küçük earned his B.S. degree from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at METU. He completed his Ph.D. in oncology and cancer biology in 2012 at UNMC. Following post-doctoral fellowships at UNMC and City of Hope Medical Center, he returned to Türkiye and joined the Department of Medical Biology at Dokuz Eylül University. Dr. Küçük has published in prestigious journals such as Lancet Oncology, Blood, PNAS, and Clinical Cancer Research. One of his first-author research articles, published in Nature Communications, was cited as a foundational reference for the WHO classification of EATL. Internationally, he has received three awards from the American Society of Hematology (Abstract Achievement Award, Global Research Award, and Supplement Award), as well as the International Young Scientist Award from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Nationally, he is a recipient of the TÜBA GEBİP and Science Academy BAGEP awards. Notably, Dr. Küçük facilitated access for the DEU School of Medicine to invaluable, up-to-date hematology education materials through the ASH International Outreach Initiative. He also serves as an editorial board member for BMC Medicine. The research group led by Dr. Küçük focuses on genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic aberrations in lymphoid cancers to identify molecular biomarkers for improved diagnosis, risk stratification, and disease monitoring, as well as to discover more effective therapeutic targets.

Our research group investigates the etiology of lymphoid neoplasms using personalized medicine approaches to bridge the gap between basic and clinical cancer research. In particular, we apply Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)-based experiments on lymphoma patient samples to identify aberrant genes, transcripts, and pathways involved in lymphomagenesis. Our group aims to:
